Movistar Arena’s formula for hosting more concerts while reducing its water and energy consumption

The facility closed 2025 operating with 100% renewable energy, reusing rainwater, and achieving a waste utilization rate of 86%.

Amidst a schedule marked by large concerts and major events, Movistar Arena reported significant progress in environmental sustainability during 2025. The venue, located in the heart of the capital, consolidated its ‘Green Arena’ model by operating with 100% renewable energy, optimizing the use of drinking water, and strengthening its circular economy strategy, achieving a waste utilization rate of 86%.

“Sustainability cannot be an isolated or decorative effort. At the heart of Bogotá, we understand that every operational decision, from how we use energy to what we do with waste, has a real impact on the city and the environment. Our goal is to show that entertainment is also part of the solution,” said Luis Guillermo Quintero, general manager of Movistar Arena.

One of the central themes of the environmental assessment was water efficiency. Throughout 2025, the venue implemented strategies aimed at reducing drinking water consumption in processes such as cleaning and disinfecting spaces, using sanitary facilities, and maintaining green areas. As a result, it collected and treated 1,379.5 cubic meters of rainwater, which was mainly reused in sanitary facilities such as toilets and urinals. This measure represented a significant saving in drinking water in daily operations.

In addition, the Movistar Arena stored and used approximately 255 cubic meters of ice generated during events. This volume was subsequently incorporated into cleaning and irrigation activities in green areas, expanding the efficient use of resources that, in other contexts, often become waste. In addition, the flow rate in the sinks was regulated, reducing consumption per use from 0.90 liters to 0.55 liters, which translated into a 62% saving in the 56 sanitary units on the premises.

In terms of energy, 2025 marked the consolidation of a model based on clean energy. The Movistar Arena operated throughout the year with 100% renewable energy, supported by LED lighting systems throughout its facilities and motion sensors that optimize consumption in intermittently used spaces. Thanks to this commitment, the venue received certification from SER Colombia, which recognizes its clean energy consumption and its contribution to reducing carbon emissions associated with its operation.

Waste management and the circular economy were another pillar of the environmental balance sheet. In 2025, the site generated 150 tons of solid waste, of which 129.25 tons were reused, achieving a diversion rate of 86%. Of the total waste recovered, 49% corresponded to recyclable materials such as plastic, glass, aluminum, Tetra Pak, and cardboard, which were reincorporated into new production cycles in partnership with the Kennedy Recyclable Materials Recovery Association (Remarek).

The remaining 37% of the waste recovered was organic waste, which was transformed into compost through a partnership with the company Más Compost, Menos Basura (More Compost, Less Waste). This material was then used as substrate for planting trees in the Movistar Arena Forest, closing the recovery cycle and linking waste management with environmental restoration actions.
