Bogotá, July 2026. Colombia’s entertainment industry is setting a new precedent. Movistar Arena continues to strengthen its sustainability initiatives, expanding its efforts from environmental action to social responsibility. As part of its commitment to making the planet a better stage, the venue has earned the Zero Waste certification, becoming the first entertainment venue in the country to achieve this recognition. This milestone validates its sustainability and circular economy model, based on the responsible use of resources, waste reduction, and the generation of environmental and social impact beyond the stage.
This certification recognizes organizations that implement comprehensive systems to prevent, separate, recover, and reintegrate waste into new production cycles, minimizing final disposal and promoting a circular economy model. In the case of Movistar Arena, this recognition is the result of a strategy that demonstrates how every concert can become an opportunity to create environmental value, strengthen communities, and contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
In June 2026, the venue achieved a 96% waste recovery rate. In 2025, it recovered 129.3 tons of glass, PET, aluminum, cardboard, and organic waste, reduced waste sent to landfills by 49.4%, and generated resources aimed at strengthening the income of recycling families involved in its operations.
These results are made possible by the Zero Waste Management System, which brings together a value chain of specialized partners to ensure that recovered materials return to new production cycles. Recyclable waste is managed in partnership with the Association for the Recovery of Recyclable Materials of Kennedy (Remarek), while organic waste is transformed into compost by Más Compost, Menos Basura. In June 2026 alone, the venue achieved a 96.3% waste recovery rate, reflecting the ongoing consolidation of an operational model that continuously evolves.
“Earning the Zero Waste certification represents much more than recognition. It confirms that entertainment can become a platform for environmental, social, and economic transformation. Our purpose is for every event to leave a positive legacy for Colombia by promoting the circular economy, strengthening communities, and raising the sustainability standards of the entertainment industry,” said Luis Guillermo Quintero, General Manager of Movistar Arena.
But Movistar Arena’s impact goes far beyond waste management.
Its Sustainability 2026 strategy integrates water efficiency, energy transition, environmental restoration, and social development initiatives to demonstrate that the success of a venue is measured not only by the number of attendees, but also by the positive impact it creates in the communities and territories where it operates.
As part of Todos Juntos, an initiative led by ABACO, Movistar Arena has joined Banco de Hilos de La Guajira, a program developed by the Food Bank of the Diocese of Riohacha that connects the cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Indigenous Wayuu and rural communities with income generation and the strengthening of food and nutritional security for their families. This initiative is particularly relevant in Colombia, where more than 432,000 children under the age of five experience chronic malnutrition.
As part of this partnership, handwoven bags are given to artists visiting the venue as a symbol of the culture and work of artisans from La Guajira. The purchase of these pieces provides fair compensation for their work, supplies the yarn needed to continue production, and strengthens food security and nutritional support for their families.
Currently, this partnership benefits 849 artisans in Riohacha, Manaure, Uribia, and Maicao; 529 of them are currently part of an active network of producers. The program is part of a comprehensive APT – Alimentos Para Todos intervention, which complements income generation with food and nutritional security initiatives. Through another of its pillars, APT operates nine community dining centers that benefit 174 children in La Guajira. “Every Wayuu bag given by Movistar Arena to national and international artists represents an opportunity to showcase the work of these communities, preserve their artisanal traditions, and promote Colombia’s cultural richness around the world. Above all, it represents our commitment to fighting hunger in Colombia,” said Carlos Yepes, Commercial and Marketing Manager of Movistar Arena.
Movistar Arena reaffirms that entertainment and sustainability are not only compatible, but when brought together, they can become a powerful tool for transformation in Colombia. Every concert creates memorable experiences for audiences, but it also leaves behind resources that return to the circular economy, restored ecosystems, strengthened communities, and new opportunities for hundreds of Colombian families.
