Individual and collective actions to mitigate climate change

06 de March 2025

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. This phenomenon refers to long-term variations in temperatures and weather patterns. Although these changes can occur naturally, in recent decades they have been intensified by human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas), deforestation, intensive agriculture, and industrial processes that generate high greenhouse gas emissions.

Why are we affected by climate change?

The world faces a phenomenon called climate change, referring to long-term variations in temperatures and weather patterns. Although these changes can be natural, they have been intensified by human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. In addition to deforestation activities, agriculture, high emissions of greenhouse gases—such as carbon dioxide ($CO_2$)—and other industrial processes; all these activities generate emissions that act like a blanket wrapped around the Earth, trapping the sun's heat and raising temperatures.

Addressing climate change requires a collective and individual effort. We can all contribute through our daily actions to reduce environmental impacts and protect the planet. Here are some effective measures you can implement:

1. Reduce Energy Consumption

Turn off lights and appliances when you are not using them. If they are not going to be in operation for a long time, it is better to keep them unplugged. Opt for low-consumption LED bulbs and choose efficient appliances that consume less energy.

2. Sustainable Transport

Choose public means of transport, carpooling, or environmentally friendly transportation, such as electric vehicles, electric scooters, or simply cycling or walking. These actions help decrease the emissions of polluting gases.

3. Practice Responsible Consumption

Acquire only the necessary goods and services. Reduce the use of disposable products, especially single-use plastics. Opt for recyclable, reusable, and biodegradable products, thus contributing to more conscious and sustainable consumption.

4. Recycle and Reuse

Correctly separate waste in your home using the color code: usable, non-usable, and organic waste. This not only decreases the amount of waste going to the landfill but also supports professional recyclers, promoting a circular economy.

Arena Verde 301

We recognize the importance and commitment of caring for our natural resources; therefore, we have developed several actions that have allowed us to reduce environmental impacts and be recognized as a sustainable venue. Some of the strategies to combat climate change at the Movistar Arena are:

  1. We encourage the use of electric vehicles, providing charging points for these vehicles. Additionally, we facilitate access via the SITP and Transmilenio stations, as well as a bicycle parking lot, promoting sustainable mobility.

  2. We implemented LED lighting and motion sensors to reduce energy consumption throughout our facilities.

  3. We collaborate with the Remarek Association for the classification and utilization of waste. This process allows usable materials to be reincorporated into new life cycles, thus reducing the environmental impact.

  4. We developed a training and awareness program for our collaborators, contractors, and visitors, promoting a culture of sustainability and ensuring that every activity carried out in the arena has the least possible impact on the environment.

Just as we work at the Movistar Arena to reduce environmental impacts, you can also be part of the change. From small daily actions to community initiatives, every effort counts to protect our natural resources.

What actions are you considering taking yourself to combat climate change? Share your commitment and help us make the planet a better stage.
